Accessories
I wanted to mention that we will also review accessories as these can be important and helpful too! Things like aerators, specific glasses etc. I can assure you however, we will not cover decantors or stoppers, unless I see something that I think will really help you guys. My wine typically goes from the bottle to the glass. I have no time for a decanter. I also have yet to find a need for a wine stopper. I took a tour of a local winery and this lady asked the best way to store an open bottle of wine. The tour guy just stared at her and asked "Why would you want to do that"? (BTW - it depends on red or white, but typically you would re-cork it and store it upright in the fridge) Look people if you open it - drink it!
So We need to finally talk about an accessory...........the Aerator. This may be the only thing White Wine drinkers have over us Red Wine drinkers.....they can open almost any bottle of wine and be ready to drink. We sometimes have to let our wine sit, breath, age.......boring. Thus the need for an aerator.
Here is what an Aerator does: An aerator’s purpose is to expand the surface area of wine, which allows the air to mingle with it. Aerators force air to be circulated throughout it, the end
result is a wine with an expanded aromatic profile and/or softer tannins.
WTF?????? So in our world here is what it does........It puts air in the wine, making the wine think it's been sitting out......hence drinking it much faster without any bitter taste.
Alot of wines do not neccessary need to be Aerated or sit, but if you read my husband's......oops I mean guest reviewers review of 2005 Louisiane Chateau Vignol you will see that some times you come accross a great wine that at first sip is nasty, but after it has time to sit and breath is fantastic. Well with an Aerator, you don't have to wait........just pour and drink!!!!!!!
I recommend one that is middle of the road. You want it to last, but there is no need to brake the bank. Remember we are not wine snobs! Something like the Rabbit or other comperable Aerators will work just fine!
Enjoy!
